The Brookside Story: Shops of Every Necessary Character traces the history of the Brookside Shopping District from its creation by noted Kansas City developer J.C. Nichols in 1919 to the present day. Filled with more than 50 photos and images that capture Brookside's favorite haunts and forgotten places, the book includes features on such Brookside institutions as The Dime Store and the Brookside Theatre, as well as profiles of Brookside's most memorable characters. 125 pp, $20.
