Congratulations to Shop Beautiful for operating at 320 W. 63rd St since 1936. The business was founded by sisters Alice Devasher and Dorothy Gangware as a high-end gift and antiques boutique. Sarah Douglas and her sister/business partner, Abbey Fields, have owned the business together since the death of their mother, Ruthelma Martin, in 2005. Ruthelma had bought the business in 1967. Sarah and Abbey literally grew up at Shop Beautiful. “I would walk across the street from Border Star Elementary after school and Mama would put me to work. I love the fact that Shop B has always been a family-owned and operated Brookside business,” Sarah reminisced.
Over the decades, Shop B has become more contemporary. No more sterling tea pots, silver trays or antiques. They continue to offer a gift registry, complimentary gift wrap and excellent customer service, but now sell as much jewelry (Pandora Jewelry and Mariana Designs are specialties) as gifts and home accents. Exclusive prints by local artists Mike Savage and Tammy L. Smith are also offered. A complete remodel and update of the interior was completed in 2010, in preparation for their 75th anniversary. Visit Shop B Mon-Fri 10am-6pm, Sat 10am-5pm, Sun noon-4pm. or their online store at shop.shopbeautiful.com.
